Breast Lift Surgery
Many women struggle with sagging breasts. Breasts can start to droop due to aging, significant weight loss, breastfeeding, or genetics. Unfortunately, sagging breasts can significantly impact a woman’s confidence in her own body.
A breast lift is a straightforward procedure that can return sagging breasts to a perkier height. Breasts lifts are also commonly used to fix asymmetrical breasts.
Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
A breast lift can fix a variety of problems, including:
- Breasts that droop and/or have lost shape
- Breasts that lack volume and firmness
- A nipple-areola complex that points downwards
- Breasts that have lost elasticity
- Breasts with stretched skin
- Breasts with enlarged areolas
- Asymmetrical breasts
- Breasts that are long and flat
Additionally, a good candidate for a breast lift:
- Is 18 years or older
- Is in good general health
- Is a non-smoker or is willing to give up smoking before and after the procedure
- Has realistic expectations for the procedure
When you book a breast lift consultation, Dr. Goldberg will review your current health condition and medical records to ensure you are a safe candidate for the procedure. The consultation is also an excellent opportunity for the doctor to ensure you are getting the correct surgery for the goals and results you want to see.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
A breast lift procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia. The exact technique used in your surgery will depend on various factors, such as the size and position of your areolas, any excess skin, and your breast shape and size.
Dr. Goldberg will make an incision for the technique that works best for your case, reshape your breasts and areolas, remove excess skin (if necessary), and close the incision. Dr. Goldberg uses a technique to rearrange your breast tissue that will yield longer-lasting results.
Common incision options include:
- Donut lift: Two concentric incisions made around the areola
- Lollipop lift: Incision made around the areola that continues vertically down the lower pole of the breast
- Anchor lift: A lollipop lift is extended to include an incision across the inframammary fold (breast crease)
While breast lift surgery can be performed as a standalone procedure for women looking to lift their breasts without much change in size, many women combine their breast lift with a resizing procedure such as breast augmentation with implants, fat transfer breast augmentation, breast revision surgery, or breast reduction.
What Is Breast Lift Recovery Like?
Most breast lift procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, so after a few hours of observation, you will go home for recovery. Patients can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the first week. Dr. Goldberg will prescribe you medication for pain management.
You can expect to be able to return to work within one to two weeks. However, you will need to avoid strenuous activity for at least two weeks. During your post-operation check-ups, Dr. Goldberg will advise when you can exercise again.
What Results Can I Expect From a Breast Lift?
As soon as you are healed, you will have noticeably perkier breasts. You will need to maintain your weight to ensure your results aren’t impacted by weight gain.
While a breast lift can have long-lasting results, it is not a permanent procedure. The natural aging process and gravity can mean your results will be impacted in later years.
